Procedure Prior Starting Of Main Engine
- Check the lubricating oil sump level. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Check fresh water expansion tank level. -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Check transmission gearbox oil level. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Check cargo pump step-up gearbox oil level. --------------------------------------------------------------------
- Build up lubricating oil pressure by hand pump, if applicable. ------------------------------------------
- For air start M/E, ensure that air bottles are charged up. ------------------------------------------------
- Start the sea water cooling system. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Open indicator cocks, turn the engine, then blow through the M/E. -----------------------------------
- Close indicator cocks and start main engine. --------------------------------------------------------------
- Change the engine control to bridge control. --------------------------------------------------------------

Procedure Prior Starting Of Aux and Bow Thruster Engines
1. Check lubricating oil sump and expansion tank level. ----------------------------------------------------
- Check starting batteries in good working condition. ------------------------------------------------------
- Check cargo pump step-up gearbox oil level. -------------------------------------------------------------
- For bow thruster engine only, check transmission gearbox oil. -----------------------------------------
